If you are wondering who tomorrow's homebuyers will be, look no further than the nation's fastest-growing population segment – Hispanics. With population growth that is expected to more than double to about 128 million by 2060, Hispanics are poised to lead housing demand in the coming years. In fact, by 2025, Hispanics are expected to account for up to 40% of all new households.
In our most recent Executive Perspective, Vice President of Housing and Community Outreach Christina Diaz-Malone looks at key indicators that will drive the Hispanic demand for housing in the coming years and highlights three important ways we are helping to prepare this rising generation for homeownership success:
- Financial Education: Teaching high school and college age students about the importance of good credit through our award-winning CreditSmart® curriculum lays the foundation for life-long money management skills.
- Pre-Purchase Counseling: Offering pre-purchase counseling through our Borrower Help Centers helps prepare prospective homebuyers for successful long-term homeownership.
- Down payment and Closing Cost Assistance: Raising awareness about local and state programs can help homebuyers bridge down payment and closing cost gaps, one of the biggest barriers often faced in purchasing a home.
