Giving Credit Where Credit Is Due

Giving Credit Where Credit Is Due

If you stood the nation's credit union members shoulder to shoulder at the equator, the line would stretch just 2,000 miles shy of circling the entire globe. Some 100 million Americans are members of one of the 6,900 credit unions that serve communities across the country.

Today is International Credit Union Day, and Freddie Mac says thank you to credit unions nationwide for everything you do for your members and for our society. Credit unions play an important role in making home possible for families – along with financing new and used cars and meeting other personal financing needs. According to the Credit Union National Association, members save more than $6 billion every year in lower borrowing costs by doing business with their credit unions.

Nothing sums up your contributions better than this year's International Credit Union Day theme of "People Helping People." That's exactly what credit unions do – and in today's environment, there's never been a bigger need for the services of our community lenders.

So thanks to the men and women of America's credit unions and the 86,000 volunteers who serve on credit union boards or committees or provide other kinds of help. Your work touches a lot of lives.
