Freddie Mac Multifamily's K-Deal securitization program is designed to help support multifamily rental housing while reducing taxpayers' exposure to risk by attracting private capital to the market. In this way, we're fulfilling the goals of a future housing finance system today.
From the program's start in 2009 through first quarter 2014, we've provided $75.3 billion in funding for rental properties nationwide through K-Deals. More than 90 percent of the apartments we fund are affordable to moderate- and lower-income renters. How much of the credit risk is shifted to private investors through each K-Deal?
- 10 percent
- 20 percent
- 50 percent
- More than that
The fact is, almost all of the credit risk is borne by private investors.
How big a hit have these investors taken?
- $50 million
- $100 million
- $500 million
- $1 billion
Investors have experienced zero credit losses to date.
