53% of Americans Believe House Prices Will Rise in Coming Year

Americans Housing Prices Survey

Bankrate's Financial Security Index showed that financial security among Americans improved in September 2014.

This monthly survey measures how secure Americans feel about their personal finances compared with 12 months ago.

When asked if home prices in general would go up, down or stay the same over the next 12 months, the vast majority (84%) of Americans said that they expected them to rise or stay the same – 53% of these said they thought prices would rise.

Other key highlights:

  • 36% of people 65 years and older said they thought prices would stay the same, compared with 26% of people between 18 and 29 years of age.
  • People living in suburban and rural areas were more than twice as likely to say that prices would drop compared with urban dwellers.
