To further support our mission, we initiate community development lending projects and promote consumer education to improve financial literacy. This helps build strong families and thriving neighborhoods in the communities we help finance.
We also sponsor a wide range of community programs that support our efforts to make home possible for more Americans. They offer our employees exciting and satisfying opportunities to give back in communities across the U.S. We’re proud of the contributions our people have made and the additional impact they’ve allowed us to have on our communities through programs such as:
Making A Community (MAC) Week: Last year, over 1,000 employees worked with DC Habitat for Humanity and Washington Parks & People to frame houses in the long-neglected Ward 7 neighborhood in Northeast DC. The employee volunteer team also constructed an amphitheater and a children's obstacle training course in an adjoining park in an effort to help bring back music and learning to the community.
Freddie Mac’s Annual “Hoops for the Homeless” Celebrity Basket-ball Tournament: Thousands of area residents attend this all-star event that supports area non-profits that work daily to help homeless families in need. In 2007, “Hoops for the Homeless” was headlined by basketball legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson and raised $900,000 for six local homeless nonprofits providing much-needed services to homeless families in the region.
Buena Vida Linea de Ayuda: Members of our HOLA Employee Network Group volunteered for this Telemundo hotline; they helped answer some of the most important questions facing Hispanic families today in the Metropolitan D.C., Virginia and Maryland area.
J.C. Nalle Community School: As part of an ongoing business/school partnership, 200 employees served as mentors, tutors and public-speaking coaches to students at this Southeast Washington, D.C. school.
We also support your financial contributions to charitable nonprofit organizations by matching donations dollar for dollar through our Matching Gift program.
