Ben – Financial Analyst Manager, Finance Division
Working together.
Our team forecasts earnings under stress scenarios, and we predict income for the next few years. There are a lot of pieces that go into making this information available. It requires constant communication, so teamwork is crucial. In my division, it makes the process ten times more efficient.
Versatility + experience = opportunity.
Prior to this position, I worked on the IT side, in software development. Then I had the
opportunity to move over to the business side, to shift focus, and improve my business skills. Freddie Mac continuously provides opportunities to explore new options. You
won't be stuck in one position for the rest of your life.
The power of mentorship.
The managers I've had were always pushing me to the next level. They really helped me do better work, and it paid off. Also, trying different positions within Freddie has helped me expand my understanding of the company. Now, when new people come on board, I encourage them to move throughout other areas to see what they like and don't like.
ARISE and shine.
I've been a member of the ARISE network for three years. ARISE provides a unique career development opportunity. It allows me to network, to meet people, and has helped me to better understand what Freddie Mac does. In ARISE we remind people that you have to take control of your career. Nobody but you knows what you want.
Gabriela – Sr. Financial Analyst, Control Standards & Change Management
Why Freddie Mac?
I'd previously worked for small companies, and I was looking for a "home"… a place where I could grow and learn, and stay for a long time. Being that Freddie Mac is a large organization, I've had lots of opportunity throughout the company.
Upward mobility.
I have a degree in finance and CPA designation. In the three years I've been at Freddie Mac I've progressed from accountant, to financial analyst, to senior financial analyst.
I've always had supportive, actively involved management regarding my career development.
Cultural pride.
Freddie Mac is recognized as one of the top companies for Latina Women professionals.
I volunteered to help with the company's HOLA network, and then became really involved. It's a way to connect with peers and associates in the industry with similar cultural backgrounds, and to gain career experience and exposure. Not a lot of companies even have Diversity networks, let alone place such emphasis and importance on them.
HOLA, specifically.
The HOLA Network provides access to executive leaders throughout the company, and has offered me the opportunity to become a leader as well. Through HOLA, I've been involved in career fairs as a company representative, and have attended national conferences including the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) and the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA).
Emily – Offerings Director, Business Operations Division
Drive your career.
I've been at Freddie Mac for 8.5 years. I started as an Account Executive… took on new roles as Sales Manager, and Director of Sales and Customer Support before moving into my current role as Offerings Director. It provides me with an opportunity to constantly learn and challenge myself - no two days are alike!
Make your move.
Freddie Mac employees can enter the organization with a particular background, but are afforded the opportunity to grow not just within their current roles, but in many cases, to move both laterally and vertically within the organization.
Play to WIN.
By taking an active role within WIN, I have met a wide variety of people throughout the organization that I may not have had the opportunity to do so in my day-to-day functions. I have found that in time, these new relationships and experiences have in fact benefited me professionally as well.
Welcome to the family.
We're a large organization which provides a diverse group of job families. I saw Freddie Mac as a company that would provide long-term growth opportunities. Freddie Mac is not just an organization, it is a community of talented individuals.
Charlene – Financial Analysis Director, Finance Division
A decade of experience.
Having been at the company for 10 years, I've had the opportunity to move into four different positions; modeling, capital management, costing, and now profitability.
There is always opportunity to move throughout the company, not necessarily lateral.
Do the math.
Our division works in financial controls and reporting, tax, capital oversight, SOX compliance, and budgeting/financial planning. My focus in analytics and profitability has provided a deeper dive into understanding the drivers of financial results.
The power of diversity.
As Chair of ARISE, I've experienced a real sense of achievement. It's an excellent
networking opportunity, and it's beneficial to share others' experiences. We become acquainted through meetings, and once people know you they're checking in on you, and you're becoming more familiar with them through working on projects together.
Wise advice.
I've learned that it's important to gather as many tools as possible, and continue to explore challenging assignments. That's what moves you ahead at Freddie Mac.
If you do good work and learn everything you can, the growth opportunities are great
Maheen – Senior Specialist, Servicing & Assets Management Division
Reaching out.
We work with multicultural groups, committees, non-profit partners and lenders in support of community financial education initiatives. The focus is on reaching women right now, regarding credit education. Being able to make an impact in the community, to host workshops for non-profit groups and consumers, is truly valuable, particularly given current economic conditions.
Why Freddie Mac?
We work on multicultural issues, with people from very diverse backgrounds.
I really have to say the people here make a huge difference. We're a strong team, and there's lots of camaraderie. It's a big part of the reason I enjoy it here. Working with people who are very dedicated is what's most motivating to me. Everyone is passionate about what we do.
Living the mission.
We're such a unique organization. In our case, it's knowing that outreach in the community is not a stretch of the imagination. We take our mission seriously, and we work towards that goal every day. In fact, this team is the epitome of diversity; if you're an underserved group, it's an opportunity to participate in a multicultural environment, to add value and make a difference at whatever level you're in, and to become future leaders of the company.
The human element.
When you work in an environment with people from various backgrounds and perspectives, everybody thinks differently and contributes their own ideas. It's important to have diversity. To make it succeed, to reach out to different demographics and underserved populations, is extremely valuable.
