Employee Volunteerism

Make a Community Month

At Freddie Mac, helping those in need is part of our culture. From new staff through senior management, people donate their time and share their abilities. Our role is to make volunteerism easy for employees. We help match individuals' interests with volunteer opportunities, supporting their efforts to take part and even to lead.

Through our Home Team volunteer program, our employees help create stable homes and neighborhoods in communities where we live and work.

Last year, more than 1,400 employees – 25% of our workforce – took part in Freddie Mac's Home Team volunteer projects. They renovated foreclosed homes, provided financial literacy training to young people and families, and tutored elementary students. Over the years, more than 120 Freddie Mac executives have taken part in our nonprofit board service program, serving on the boards of organizations like the Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing in Virginia, and D.C. Habitat for Humanity.

Through our team builds, hundreds of employees help build and repair homes with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together. As part of our business-school partnership with J.C. Nalle Community School in Washington, DC, employees tutor students, serve as pen pals, chaperone field trips, and run a public speaking program for the students.

More than 700 employees each year take part in our annual Making a Community Month volunteer project, or MAC Month building homes, renovating playgrounds at family shelters, and supporting nonprofit partners.

Freddie Mac employees also donate time and money to organizations of their own choosing. The Freddie Mac Foundation matches employees' monetary gifts through our Matching Gifts program–up to $10,000 a year–and donations of time are matched through our Dollars-for-Doers program.
