In April 2011, a new framework was introduced and adopted by Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae to establish a set of standards that would streamline the mortgage servicing process for borrowers struggling to pay their mortgages and avoid foreclosure.
This set of streamlined practices -- called the Servicing Alignment Initiative, or SAI – was developed with a mission to:
- Motivate Servicers to effectively engage with borrowers and resolve their cases earlier;
- Obtain complete Borrower Response Packages, including all required income and hardship documentation, so that Servicers may evaluate a borrower for the entire array of available alternatives to foreclosure;
- Promote greater transparency and quicker decisions for distressed borrowers; and
- Strengthen the performance of the Servicer.
Freddie Mac is offering free, live, two-hour, web-based overviews of the Servicing Alignment Initiative to housing counselors and CDCs/EDCs during the month of October, and you’re invited to join us.
What You Will Learn
During this two-hour webinar, you will get a broad-brush introduction of the Servicing Alignment Initiative – plus any updates since its initial introduction. You’ll also learn how Servicers are using the SAI requirements to contact borrowers, to evaluate relief and workout options, and to help prevent foreclosure. If you participated in our first set of SAI webinar trainings for housing counselors in 2011, when it was originally announced, you may want to join us for a refresher as the material has been updated.
