Purpose and Scope of the Code
The Code of Conduct, which has been approved by the Freddie Mac Board of Directors, is a guide and resource to help each of us contribute to Freddie Macs integrity as we pursue our corporate mission. Each employees acknowledgement of and adherence to the Code is a condition of employment. Although the Code is designed to apply directly to Freddie Mac employees, Freddie Mac expects all parties who work on its behalf, including contingent workers, independent contractors and consultants, to embrace the spirit of the Code and adhere to its standards of conduct.
The Code contains general values and standards of behavior that are expanded upon in more detailed corporate policies and procedures. Each of us is responsible for familiarizing ourselves with and conforming our conduct to these more specific policies as appropriate to our job functions. For your convenience, the Code contains references to many, but not all, of these policies.
While this Code of Conduct provides a basic framework for appropriate business conduct of Freddie Mac employees, it cannot cover or provide answers to every situation that raises ethical issues. The following questions may be helpful when facing difficult business decisions:
- Does a proposed action make you uncomfortable because it appears to conflict with the law, the Code of Conduct, or Freddie Mac policy?
- Is a proposed action one that you would not want to see reported in the media?
- Could you justify a proposed action to your friends and family?
- Have you been asked to lie, misrepresent information, deviate from normal procedure without explanation, or keep an action quiet for no apparent reason?
- Are you comfortable with a proposed action is this something a reasonable person would do?
