A Unique San Francisco Affordable Housing Program: Meet the People Involved

Earlier this year I wrote about an exciting program to preserve more than 1.400 homes for low-income families and seniors in San Francisco.

I hope you’ll check out our new video which tells the compelling story of how this project came to be—the people involved and what we accomplished.  You’ll hear from some of our partners, including the residents, developers, the lenders and the Mayor’s staff.

Why are preservation deals like this one so important?  We face a serious and growing rental housing crisis in the United States. While the supply of affordable housing is disappearing, demand continues to grow. And the housing that’s available is often in dire need of improvement.

Through this San Francisco Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) program, we’re continuing our commitment to preserve affordable housing and strengthen neighborhoods. RAD’s aim is to provide significant new capital and a stable source of funding by converting public housing to privately held affordable housing. This allows for critical repairs and renovations that can transform homes and neighborhoods, and impact the lives of the people who live there.
