Multifamily Leadership and Staff Changes

We’re providing you with an update on some key personnel changes, including two internal promotions as well as the retirement of a member of our management team. We’re sharing this information to keep you informed and to make you aware of some new points of contact across our organization.
Cyndi Shanahan has retired after more than 20 years with Freddie Mac. As Vice President of Business and Customer Management, Cyndi has been an integral force in managing offerings, Seller/Servicer rollout and adoption communications, training and customer audits. Randall Borgersen, Senior Director of Marketing and Customer Management, is now available to assist you with your training, conference, new offerings, product and marketing materials and any non transaction-related business questions.
Leanne Spies has been promoted to the position of Vice President, Multifamily Operations. In her new role, Leanne will oversee all asset management operations for reporting remittances on loan activity, purchase and funding, data management, the records center and the cash desk. Leanne is uniquely qualified for her new position, having held many jobs over the past 16 years at Freddie Mac. She has served in many departments including Internal Audit, Operations and Technology in Change Management and the Enterprise Program Office. Leanne’s well rounded background means that she has held the roles of Director, Multifamily Loan Accounting Non-Standard Transactions, Cash Desk/Operational Close as well as Senior Director, Multifamily Asset Management, Watchlist Management and Operational Oversight. Most recently, Leanne was Senior Director, Asset Management Governance and Control in the Multifamily division. Prior to her tenure at Freddie Mac, Leanne held accounting and auditor positions at Defense Logistics Agency and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Leanne holds both a Bachelor of Science in Business and a Master of Accountancy from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Phillip Cathlina has accepted the role of Senior Underwriting Director for the Central Region. Phil has been with Freddie Mac since 1998 where he began as an Analyst and progressing through the years to Senior Analyst and Associate Director of Production. Since 2007, Phil has held the position of Regional Underwriting Director in Chicago. Over the past several years, Phil has played an integral part in the success of the Central Region. He will continue to manage the underwriting team in Chicago and will partner with his regional production counterparts, John Luka and Peter Giles, to maintain the high level of customer service and accountability that we deliver to our Seller/Servicers. With a total of 20 years’ industry experience, Phil holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Real Estate and Finance from the University of Wisconsin.
