Child Welfare League of America Honors Freddie Mac and Freddie Mac Foundation as Corporate Advocate of the YearFreddie Mac, along with the Freddie Mac Foundation, have been named by the Child Welfare League of America (CWLA) as its 2007 Corporate Advocate of the Year. Following the Gulf hurricanes, the company and its Foundation contributed a combined $10 million to help nonprofit and national organizations find housing solutions for displaced families. As part of this commitment, the Foundation set up the Katrina Fund for Foster Children, devoted to helping meet the immediate and long-term needs of displaced foster children and families. The Foundation selected CWLA as a national partner in helping families through the fund. "Freddie Mac and the Freddie Mac Foundation have an outstanding and unparalleled commitment to children, families and communities on both the local and national level. In fact, the Foundation has been one of CWLA's strongest supporters and have proven their commitment in word and deeds many times over," commented Linda Spears, CWLA Vice President for Corporate Communications and Development. The award will be presented to Freddie Mac and its Foundation at CWLA's Annual Dinner, February 27, 2007 at 7:00 P.M. to be held during CWLA's National Conference in Washington, DC. PNC Financial Services Group of Pittsburgh, PA and Regan Communications of Boston, MA will receive Corporate Friends of Children awards. "Our job at Freddie Mac is to get people into homes, and the Foundation's is to better the lives of children. The thought of so many children and their families being forced out of their homes stirred us to act. That's why we made sizeable contributions and teamed up with outstanding organizations like CWLA to provide relief to Gulf region families," explained Ralph F. Boyd, Jr., executive vice president, Freddie Mac, and chairman, Freddie Mac Foundation. "We're honored to be recognized by CWLA and know that together we changed lives of many foster families." Criteria used by CWLA in the selection of the awardees include: personnel and management policies that promote the well-being of its employees; giving and philanthropic activities that benefit children, youth and families outside the family; corporate products that are not harmful to children and families or their physical and cultural environment; and a sustained pattern of national, state or local activities that benefit children, families and the community.About the Child Welfare League of AmericaSince 1920, the Child Welfare League of America (CWLA) has been the nation's pre-eminent organization dedicated to ensuring that disadvantaged and vulnerable children are protected from harm and have the tools and resources they need to grow into the healthy and happy adults we want them to become.
