What are Tier One and Tier One Hall of Fame?

Tier One is an annual designation that an institution servicing Freddie Mac mortgages is meeting or exceeding the high performance standards we require for superior servicing. These Servicers are committed to excellence, outstanding performance and second-to-none quality servicing that preserve homeownership.

Tier One Hall of Fame is an annual designation that an institution servicing Freddie Mac mortgages has sustained our high Tier One performance standards for four consecutive years. It is a prestigious award indicating "the best of the best."

What Does Tier One Mean for a Servicer?

As part of our Servicer Incentive Program, these outstanding Servicers earn exceptional rewards for their top performance. Since 1998 when we created Tier One Performance Awards, we've provided mortgage Servicers with nearly $12 million in financial incentives and waivers of fees to reward and promote excellent servicing of our mortgages.

  • Tier One Platinum – We reward and recognize our top large Servicers through Tier One Platinum.  Servicers who achieve Tier One ratings in both the Investor Accounting and Reporting and the Default Management categories of their Servicer Performance Profile – a confidential report that Servicers can use to proactively track their performance against our guidelines – for two quarters during a calendar year are eligible for Tier One Platinum recognition.
  • Tier One Gold – We're committed to small- and mid-sized community-based Servicers, and we recognize their excellence through Tier One Gold. High-performing Servicers with small seriously delinquent portfolios have the opportunity to achieve Tier One Gold recognition.
  • Tier One Hall of Fame – If a Servicer meets the Tier One Platinum or Tier One Gold criteria for four consecutive years with no material foreclosure timeline penalties, they will be included in our prestigious Hall of Fame. The Tier One Hall of Fame is an industry recognition that highlights Servicers' continued commitment to being "the best of the best." Servicers must qualify each calendar year, and receive additional incentives of up to $50,000 per year.
