Suspension of Evictions Through January 3, 2010

December 18, 2009, Single-Family Advisory E-mail

Freddie Mac is temporarily suspending all scheduled evictions involving foreclosed occupied single-family 1- to 4- unit residences with Freddie Mac-owned mortgages beginning December 19, 2009 through January 3, 2010. Several press reports today inaccurately characterized this as a foreclosure sale suspension, but this is a suspension of evictions only.

As a reminder, Freddie Mac announced on March 4, 2009 that Servicers should suspend foreclosure sales on owner-occupied properties where the borrower is under consideration for a Freddie Mac foreclosure alternative, including modification under the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP). This policy remains in effect and is unrelated to our temporary suspension of evictions.

Thank you for your ongoing efforts to avoid preventable foreclosures for troubled borrowers with Freddie Mac-owned mortgages.
